Digital Photography Dvd

Digital Photography Dvd
I nearly 200,000 digital photos … organize? Not yet?

I love digital photography and over the years, I learned rather good at it. I have only 3 terabytes of storage, but I do not have organizational skills to assemble before lose. Most are 10 MB or more. What is the best way or program to use before burning them on DVD or Blu-ray even permanently store them. If I guess that there are 110 or more categories. Help! Please

I do not feel so bad today. I only have about 100,000 and about half of them are organized (somewhat). Storage media: The days of the shoebox in the closet are almost gone. Options digital image storage are numerous. The USB drives are nice, relatively inexpensive and compact. And if you compare the cost of these portable players at a cost of how many DVD or BR would be needed to store the same amount of pictures, you find they are not that expensive it. You can get a disc for everyone, or a group of categories. For example, to have a landscape, landscapes, Skyscape, and Wildlife. Either we have a very broad topic. I have one for all the pictures I took of me (laughter). In addition, you can get them in different sizes and store the smaller categories their home on the readers of your eviction of most popular subjects. If you go the route by car, I would strongly advise you to get a program that can make an image disk as a backup. Find one that: burn the image straight to CD, DVD or BR (a feature called "covering" the will), incremental backups (Means it only backs up files that have been added or modified since the last backup), the ability to "mount" the backup Image (once mounted, the image behaves as an extra disk and can be accessed with any type of file manager program and image editors). Acronis is an excellent program for that. When I say I mean CD CD, DVD or BR. Backup to CD is the best way Next to save your images. Attention here. If the CD is damaged … You're done! Like the dog vomit in the shoe box, you lose a little, Most of all images. Thus, when burning CDs make 2 at least. Also, everyone knows not to scratch the underside of a CD (making it difficult to read). Few people know not to damage the upper side (it is impossible to read). The top has a thin and delicate "leaf" about it. This is where data is stored. You can buff scratches on the underside, but a scratch on top "sheet" side is not repairable, the data is gone. So, get a bunch of CD labels and put them on your CD. Even if you do not print them, and just write on them, which protects the foil. You can still damage the CD with labels on them, but not easier than without. Floppy: I just wanted to scare you a bit. As my (small) photos to weigh 1.44, floppies are a thing of the past when it comes to images. How to store: From my experience, if you start with a program to place your images, you're stuck with this program approach. The switch to a different program means a lot of time to conversion to the new system. A system that I use, seems to work with everything I need. I create folders using the following format: yymmdd – "Using the date the photo was taken with two digits of the year month and day, followed by a space, hyphen, space and subject. I use a space for better readability and to avoid a collision when downloading or download from my site (no spaces allowed in names). It also helps to avoid overwriting images of the year with pictures of last year (If your camera uses the date in the filename). 080704-080704 picnic – Fireworks 081225-090101 Christmas – Part 090,618 – 091,225 clarklake – Christmas 100101 – Part I also create folders named to move these folders. Clarklake Christmas clouds Diving dog yard wildlife landscape, serving as general categories. Open these folders and you will find all the other folders named by yymmdd – topic (which corresponds usually the name of the file I am). If some, most, all of your image files are combined into a single folder, this scheme could be the best way to start. Create files with just the date (YYMMDD). Take the case of that date and put them in the appropriate folders. Then go into the records and create the folder on (080 704 – party) in the file date. Now, move all files that date and the issue in this case. Once you done this, you can move the folder with all files in one action. Soon, this madhouse of files will be organized in the date on which they were slaughtered and the theme or subject. And you do not rename files with this scheme. It seems a bit complex, but it is not. What you end up with some something that looks like this in Windows Explorer: Christmas – 081225 – Christmas – 091225 – Scuba Christmas – 090618 – Family clarklake – 080 704 – picknic – 090 101 – gone – 100 101 – misc party – 080 704 – fireworks also gives you two ways to refer to your files. With this many files, I suggest you to go with USB drives and a backup system. Burn the ones you want to go, or use most often on CDs, DVDs, whatever. Oh, and never modify the original, make a copy of it. Hope this helps
