Best photography manual outdoors?

Can anyone recommend a manual / book that would benefit a novice outdoor photographer? My husband loves Outdoor photography (particulalry Animals, sports, and landscapes) and want to turn his hobby into a career in the future. Prefers digital photography, a manual that also includes digital elements and / or Photoshop would be great. In addition, it will be a birthday gift, and if you have any gift ideas in the field of photography outdoors (which will not cost a fortune), I love to hear them! Thank you.

A book I particularly liked is "National Geographic Photography Field Guide: Secrets for making great pictures." It is written by two professional photographers working for National Geographic and it is full of useful tips and advice, also good for beginners. You can find it on Amazon.com
