What are the important camera accessories?
I'm just starting out in the field of photography and I am a complete amateur. So I decided on a good camera (the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi) I am a little unsure where to go from here. I wonder what all I had need to buy at the same time as the device itself. A carrying case, lenses, memory card …? I do not know how to put it simply, but what is needed to buy along with the device itself? If you can help me it would be great!
I suggest buying nothing more in the way of equipment a good camera bag and a good quality UV filter for the moment. Of course, you will need memory cards, but that's all you should buy right now. The first thing you must do is actually learn to use your camera. This is done by reading and studying the owner's manual for your XSi. You should know that all modes are used when and why – or do not use them. You must know what they do. Photographer and author David Busch (http://www.dbusch.com/) has written a guide for your camera. It will complement the owner then add your list. Bryan Peterson's Books "Handbook of understanding exposure" and "Understanding Shutter Speed" are also recommended. The book "Digital SLR Handbook" by John Freeman will also help you. Spend the next 6 months to use your camera and lens that comes with it. This lets you know what you love photography and you can then start thinking about what you extras that you need to do your type of photography. If you miss today and buy a 70-200mm zoom and decide later that you really need is a macro lens and a wide-angle lens, you have lost your money on the zoom. If you buy a wide-angle and macro lens and later decide you love sports and photography Wildlife and require a 70-300mm zoom again you have wasted your money on these two objectives. Again, everything I suggest to buy everything now is a UV filter to protect the front element of your lens. Always buy quality – Heliopan, Tiffen, Singh-Ray, B + W, Hoya. Cheap-name filters are a waste of money. Maybe in a few months, you can add a tripod for your equipment. Again, you want to buy quality. Manfrotto, Gittos, Slik, Velbon are all good brands. Your goals are yet to learn to use your camera and learn how to make a good image.
