Portrait Photography …. I turned on but need to know where to start?

Hello, I'm eager to try their hand at photography Portrait and managed to get their hands on some equipment. The equipment is: 2 x fluorescent lamps constant beep, 2 x portaflash 336vm modeling (Flash and continuous) lamps, 2 x portaflash (small bulbs) x 2 umbrellas, 1 x reflector and a sky motif backdrop. My question is, I have many friends who want portraits, mostly children and wondered where to start? I will be shooting at ease in a room size of 9 ft wide x 13ft length. How can I have the configuration of light in this room? Is there a basic setup for me to start? When I know what I can do a search on the net for more information Related regarding this issue.
