Concert Photography: Nikon D90 kit lens or a 50mm prime?

I take group shots in low light mainly. I'll buy the Nikon D90 a few days. Small question — In your experience in taking photos of bands near the scene, if you bought a 24mm-70mm zoom or a 50mm prime, etc., so you do not miss having a 18mm-50mm zoom lens? Bands I shoot low light quite a lot.
