Should I make my friends pay for my services as a Senior Portrait photographer?
I have taken three of my friends’ Senior Portraits and now I have to take some other peoples’ and I’m not sure how much I should charge, or if I should even ask them to pay. In the past I was never paid by Friend 1, Friend 2 offered to take me out for ice cream, which I refused, and Friend 3 picked up a $50 tab.
How much should I charge?
That is how many photographers start out, my dear.
So yes, you spent $$ on your camera. You spent time in front of your computer converting / burning the files onto the disks. So yes, yes, yes!
Unless of course you are doing it for someone who is dear to you (and someone whom you care about), for example, your best friend. It will be a nice “gift”. But you just simply can’t “give it all away” for free or people will be “using” you in time.

If your photos are exceptionally good, then $50 for now will be worth your skills and time, and surely it won’t kill them to do that.
